AMD and Oxide Games to cooperate for cloud gaming

High-performance computing solutions provider AMD and Oxide Games, a game engine and games developer, announced a multi-year partnership to develop and build upon Oxide’s game engine Nitrous, adding features, putting research and development efforts to provide a better cloud gaming experience.

Better gaming on cloud

Cloud gaming is one of the on-the-rise aspects of gaming and playing demanding games with novelty hardware is a dream for almost every gamer. Cloud gaming has a few critical components, the first one being the internet connection itself. After that datacentre hardware that runs the game for the client (gamer) and the platform and/or the game engine that connects the client to the experience comes in second.

To provide necessary developments of cloud-based gaming, AMD and Oxide Games will work together in the upcoming years to provide a better experience for cloud gaming and work on optimizations which would allow the gamers seamlessly to play games without any stutter or lag.

Scott Herkelman, corporate vice president and general manager, Graphics Business Unit, AMD, said:

“At AMD, we pride ourselves on our ability to push the boundaries of what technology can do so it elevates the gaming experience. Oxide shares this passion and is an ideal partner for us as we expand the way gamers play, while delivering the quality experience they demand.”

AMD provides the graphics processor hardware for Stadia, Google’s cloud gaming platform and empowers current and next generation of gaming consoles. Being one of the two x86 processor providers and one of the two high-end graphics processor units; they also in heavy competition with Intel on the datacentre, portable computers, desktops, and high-end desktop market while for graphics processor market they compete with Nvidia after AMD’s acquisition of Canadian ATI in 2009.

Marc Meyer, president of Oxide Games, said:

“Oxide’s motto is to bring games to life that have never been seen or experienced before. We built the Nitrous Engine specifically with that purpose in mind. AMD’s commitment to gamers and their leadership in pushing the edge of state-of-the-art hardware is a perfect complement to Oxide’s commitment to the same excellence in software.”
