The data center’s initial capacity is 1,825 cabinets but when fully built, the facility will host 9,225 cabinets in a 25,000 square meter space. Equinix’s new data center is interconnected with the company’s seven other IBX data centers. The initial investment for the project is $160 million.

SY5 is the 8th data center in Sydney and the 16th data center in Australia. Other Equinix facilities are spread across Melbourne, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide, and Brisbane. SY5 is a part of Equinix’s investment of more than $535 million for 11 new or expansion project opening in 2019 in key metros across Asia-Pacific.
