Facebook opened its first corporate data center in Prineville in 2011 and continues to expand. Now, the company announced the construction of the ninth facility which is 450,000 square feet. It is expected to be completed in 2023.
Expansion in Prineville
The company has worked closely with its general contractor to implement the proper measures due to COVID-19 to ensure all crews are safe. Facebook shared the announcement on the Prineville Data Center’s Facebook page:
“We are happy to share that we will be expanding our Prineville Data Center by an additional 450,000 square feet. That means that, once completed, this nine-building data center will represent an investment of more than $2 billion and more than 13 years of building in Prineville.”
Oregon offers tax breaks advantages to big data center owners. Those tax breaks saved Facebook nearly $74 million in its first six years in Oregon.
