SCALE is the largest community-run open-source and free software conference in North America. It is held annually in the greater Los Angeles area. The Southern California Linux Expo is organized by volunteers and supported by the Linux Expo of Southern California Inc, a 501c3 non-profit. SCALE’s objective is to give educational opportunities on open-source software. Open-source software is any program that passes the OSI (Open Source Initiative) litmus test. GNU/Linux and different BSD operating systems, as well as programs such as LibreOffice and Firefox, are examples of OSS.
SCALE’s target audiences are both current and potential users of OSS. Those users can be individual computer users, educational institutions, or businesses.

This year’s SCALE will be held in Pasadena, California, on March 9-12. It will feature the keynote speakers as follows:
- Ken Thompson (Creator of Go and Unix)
- Kitty Yeung (Physicist and Artist)
- Arun Gupta (Intel and CNCF)
SCALE will also have an exhibit hall floor with over 100 booths, where attendees can meet with commercial vendors, open-source projects, and recruiters interested in open-source professionals. Some of this year’s exhibitors will include Ubuntu, Red Hat, Datadog, Meta, GNOME, CentOS, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, and more.
