The hosting industry is constantly changing and improving. Therefore, industry and IT professionals need better tools during this progress. With new and improved features of Plesk’s latest version, Plesk Obsidian offers more efficiency in productivity, security, and usability while managing multiple environments and services.
1. Modernized and lightweight Plesk UI
Plesk Obsidian is coming with a new look. New and modernized UI is more lightweight and easier to view. The menu on the left side can now be minimized to be able to show the detailed view and overview of all sites at the same time more efficiently.
With advanced monitoring features, it is easier to trace any issues that can negatively affect the website availability immediately. Moreover, it is possible to enable alerts to eliminate problems like CPU, RAM, and Disk IO overload. The new Grafana extension can work with advanced monitoring and creates detailed reports to make it easier to spot the problem.
2. PHP composer no longer requires SSH access
With the new PHP dependency manager, you can set up environment variables, modify the composer.json file, execute the install and update commands without the SSH access. You can also perform tests, run dependencies, and create class maps and Plesk Obsidian can memorize all the commands and options to install them easily.
You don’t have to worry about partially-updates dependencies. Plesk Obsidian interface can also warn you during the dependencies update about the potential risks. And your website will use the PHP version specified in the composer.json automatically.
3. Automatically detect and resolve issues with self-repair tool
Another handy tool that can reduce the workload of the administrator and security risks is the self-repair tool. Plesk Obsidian’s new self-repair tool, Repair Kit, can automatically detect and resolve issues with Plesk and Plesk related services.
Repair Kit not only shows the total RAM, CPU and Disk usage but also lets you see the processes running on the server and for individual processes. It will also be possible to see all the MySQL queries and processes to pinpoint what consumes excessive resources.
With the new administration tool called Restricted Access Mode, you can set authorizations for each administrator. This feature lowers the risk of administrators to change any essential settings beyond their access.
SSL/TLS certificates are very important tools when it comes to protecting data transfer against man-in-the-middle attacks. With the new features of Plesk Obsidian, it is easier to buy, install, and renew SSL certificates. Obsidian is also capable of managing the HSTS, OCSP Stapling, and HTTP to HTTPS redirect. You can also see the SSL status of domains, subdomains, and domain aliases and get an A+ rating from ssllabs with ease.
5. Reduced disk space required for backup
You can also secure your SMTP, IMAP, and POP connections to your mail server with an SSL certificate which allows you to keep your conversations private. With SNI support provided by Postfix and MailEnable and Obsidian, you can use individual SSL certificates for each domain.
Instead of full server backup, restoring a subscription from a full server backup now requires only additional free disk space that equal to the subscription space. With the reduced server disk space needed to back-up to Google, Amazon S3, FTP, and One Drive storage, operations are faster on backups that are stored remotely.
6. New File Manager features and UX improvements
Plesk Obsidian comes with a more productive File Manager with mass upload and file search. Now it is easy to upload and extract RAR, TAR, TAR.GZ and TGZ archives. With Plesk Obsidian, now you can search for files by name or content also.
Previewing image and text files without opening a new File Manager screen and restoring the accidentally removed wrong file or directory via File Manager also coming soon.
7. Default installed modules for a better security
Apart from these features, Plesk Obsidian comes with mod_security and fail2ban v0.10 as default. Systems based on Linux OSes can now be restarted automatically. PHP engines included within Plesk contains the most popular PHP extensions, such as sodium, exif, and fileinfo.
Now you can send HTML-based email notifications to help to improve the user experience. Plesk also comes with default HTML templates. You can customize the look by formatting the HTML.
