What is Cisco Systems?
Cisco Systems is one of the worldwide leader company in networking for the Internet. The company was founded in 1984 by Len Bosack and wife Sandy Lerner, both working for Stanford University, who invented the multiprotocol router to seek an easier way to connect different types of computer systems in 1984. Two years later, Cisco Systems shipped its first product. Now, Cisco Systems is a multi-national corporation, with over 35,000 employees in more than 115 countries. After spending 20 years in Cisco, Chuck Robbins became the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cisco in 2015 and was elected Chairman of the Board in December 2017.
Cisco has started acquisitions as a part of its expansion strategy in the nineties. In 1993, Crescendo Communications was the first company that has been acquired by Cisco. Up to this date. Cisco acquired around 100 companies from various areas including software and network. The company held its initial public offering (IPO) in 1990, Cisco’s shares rose 24%. The company still trades nearly 50% below its all-time high. Cisco has a market cap of more than $155 billion as of March 2020. The company began paying a dividend in 2011 while it has been through years of restructuring.
The company offers artificial intelligence, cloud, data center, IoT, wireless and mobility, software-defined networking, intent based networking, and software solutions for sectors including cities and communities, energy, financial services, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, oil and gas, retail, utilities, and transportation. Cisco has many awards on technology, services, marketing, and the workplace. Cisco’s networking solutions allow people to access or transfer information without regard to differences in time, place, or type of computer system. Cisco has over 200 trademarks that signify Cisco’s high-quality products and services.
