DE-CIX

DE-CIX is an Internet Exchange (IX) operator, provides premium interconnection services and runs more than 20 carrier and data center neutral IXs globally. DE-CIX that was founded in 1995, serves over 1800 carriers, ISPs, and content networks from over 100 countries, including all leading international players in various metro markets in Europe, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and North America. With 8.3 Terabits per second of peak traffic, DE-CIX Frankfurt is the world’s leading Internet Exchange.

In 2003, a third site was opened in Frankfurt, another one was opened three years later. In the following years, further Internet Exchanges followed in Hamburg, Munich, and Dusseldorf. DE-CIX has announced its further expansion in South East Asia with a new Internet Exchange in Singapore. DE-CIX Singapore, as the heart of the ASEAN region, was the next step of international expansion of the company. Between 1995 and 2020, the basic systematics of peering remained stable. Internet service providers, network operators, content delivery networks, carriers, and companies exchange their data traffic in this cost-neutral way. The standard connection at DE-CIX has increased ten thousand times to 100 Gbit/s, in addition to this even up to 400 Gbit/s are possible.

In 2012, the Internet exchange UAE-IX in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) has started operation, managed by DE-CIX, became operational. In 2015, DE-CIX Marseille (France) and DE-CIX Palermo (Italy), two new Internet exchanges in the Mediterranean Basin were established, operated by the DE-CIX International AG. The third new Internet exchange is located in Istanbul (Turkey), operated by the DE-CIX Istanbul Network Connections, a new subsidiary of DE-CIX International AG. Following that, a new Internet exchange in Dusseldorf (Germany) and Dallas (US) were announced and DE-CIX Madrid (Spain) became operational in 2016. DE- IX won the Capacity Award for Best Global Service for its DE-CIX Apollon platform, the 2014 Capacity Award for Best North American Project for DE-CIX New York., and the Capacity Award for Best Internet Exchange.
