What is Dell Technologies?

Dell Technologies is a technology company headquartered in Texas. Dell Technologies formed as a result of a merger of Dell and EMC Corporation, in 2016. The company provides infrastructure for organizations and mainly focuses on digital transformation, security transformation, IT transformation, and workforce transformation. Dell Technologies’ product family includes pcs, servers, smartphones, television, software, computer, and network security.

There are 2 divisions in the company. Dell Client Solution Group is responsible for producing desktop PCs, notebooks, tablets, and peripherals, such as monitors, printers, and projectors. Dell EMC Infrastructure Solutions Group mainly focuses on servers, storage, and networking.

Before its merger with EMC, the company traces its origins to the 1980s. Dell Computer Corporation was created by Michael Dell in 1984. Dell produced its first computer of its own design in 1985 and named it the Turbo PC. The company managed to reach over $73 million in revenue during the first year. In 1986, Lee Walker joined the company as President and Chief Operating Officer. In 1990, Morton Meyerson, former CEO and president of Electronic Data Systems, was hired to replace Walker.

Dell announced the acquisition of EMC Corporation in 2015. With a $67 billion transaction, the duo signed the highest-valued tech acquisition in history. The merger was completed in September of 2016, with the issuance of $45.9 billion in debt and $4.4 billion common stock. To repay the debt, the company sold its Dell Services, Dell Software Group, and the Dell EMC Enterprise Content Divisions for proceeds of $7.0 billion.
