What is Google Cloud?
Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a cloud computing platform that grew around the initial Google App Engine framework to run their web applications on Google infrastructure. Google Cloud includes infrastructure tools and services for users to build applications and services on top of. In terms of revenue, Google Cloud is the third biggest cloud provider AWS and Microsoft Azure in second.
When launched in April 2008, it was an App Engine, a developer tool that was designed to make it easy to scale when that app reaches the point where it is receiving significant traffic and has millions of users. By making it available to 10,000 developers on a first-come, Google improved App engine due to the feedbacks. Google App Engine served as a Platform as a Service (PaaS). In September 2011, Google ended the preview mode and officially rolled out App Engine as a fully supported Google product. Two years later, it took formally Google Cloud Platform name. Up to this date, there have been many more added services and products under the Google Cloud Platform umbrella. Google Cloud Platform is defined as a public cloud provider. In February 2018, Cloud IoT Core that offers a system for managing the connection of internet of things (IoT) devices, such as sensors, with Google’s cloud has been launched. Another important service, Google Cloud Run, based on Docker containers, has been released to automatically scale stateless containers in 2019. Google Cloud Run is a new solution for running serverless applications.
Artificial intelligence & machine learning, API management, compute, data analytics, databases, developer tools, Internet of things, hybrid and multi-cloud, management tools, media, migration, networking, security, storage are the categories of Google Cloud Platform’s products. For the first quarter of 2020, the Google Cloud Platform can be used in 22 regions and 61 zones. GCP offers a series of Google Cloud Certified programs provided by Coursera, Pluralsight, Qwiklabsi or live workshops and webinars.
