IBM Cloud includes a set of cloud computing services, designed for small development teams and organizations, and large enterprise businesses, provided by the tech giant IBM. The offering is a combination of platform-as-a-service with infrastructure-as-a-service models. IBM Cloud includes more than 190 cloud services such as bare metal server, public virtual cloud server, private virtual cloud server, along with Kubernetes Server, and Red Hat OpenShift.

IBM announced the acquisition of a public cloud platform, SoftLayer in June of 2013, which became the foundation of the company’s infrastructure-as-a-service offering. IBM Cloud was originally introduced as Bluemix, which was a platform-as-a-service, in July of 2014. In 2016, IBM launched SoftLayer under the company’s Bluemix brand. One year later, IBM decided to unify its entire cloud services portfolio with a new brand, IBM Cloud.

IBM’s cloud offerings are available in data centers around the globe, in 19 countries with multizone regions in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. IMB Cloud’s solutions are available in the public cloud, on-premises, or combination. For its hybrid solution, IBM uses Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud, allowing users to build only once and deploy it anywhere. Its IBM Cloud Satellite solution also allows users to create a hybrid environment with scalability and on-demand flexibility of public cloud services. IBM Cloud support for multi-cloud and hybrid multi-cloud solutions are also available, making it easier for users to work with different vendors. With IBM Cloud Pack for hybrid clouds, users can develop apps once and deploy them anywhere.

IBM Cloud platform includes multiple components to provide a consistent and dependable experience. With its console, users can create, view, and manage their cloud resources. IBM Cloud platform’s identity and access management component securely authenticates users for services and control access. Another component is a catalog of hundreds of supported products. The search and tagging mechanism filters and identifies resources. Finally, An account and billing management system provides exact usage for pricing plans and payment fraud protection.
