What is Interxion?

Interxion, a European carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data center services provider and a Digital Realty company, is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is an interconnection hub that allows organizations to extend their reach to new markets. The company has more than 2000 customers and over 290 data centers. The company is mostly known for its carrier-neutral colocation solution, including the provision of space, power, and a secure environment to house computing, network, storage, and IT infrastructure.

Interxion was founded by Bart van den Dries. European Telecom Exchange BV was established in 1998 and rebranded as Interxion Holding N.V in 2000. The company invested in bringing connectivity into the London campus. The company also established a Point of Presence in the London campus as a part of its commitment to connectivity led to the London Internet Exchange. London Access Point offered more options to the company’s customers and enhanced its connectivity gravity in 2010.

Interxion announced IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in 2011. UK-based data center operator Telecity announced its plans to merge with Interxion, creating a joint data-center operator in 2015. During the same year, US data center company Equinix also announced the acquisition of TelecityGroup for approximately $3.6 billion, causing the termination of Telecity’s deal with the company. A few years later, in 2019 Digital Realty announced the acquisition of Interxion for $8.4 billion. With the acquisition, Digital Realty aims to create a leading global provider of data center, colocation, and interconnection solutions.
