What is Lenovo?

Lenovo is a multinational technology company listed on the Fortune 500 list and one of the world’s largest PC vendors and smartphone companies. S$47 billion personal technology company has more than 57,000 employees in over 60 countries serving its customers that spread across 180 countries. The company offers PC, smartphone, tablet, smart TV, server, workstation, or storage devices.

The company was founded in Beijing by Liu Chuanzhi with ten experienced engineers. The founding members of the company decided the company name to be the Chinese Academy of Sciences Computer Technology Research Institute New Technology Development Company. After a failed attempt to import televisions, the company decided to do quality checks on computers. Lenovo also tried to market a digital watch but failed. In 1990, Lenovo started selling computers with its own brand name.

Lenovo became publicly traded with an IPO in Hong Kong in 1994 and raised nearly $30 million. In 2005, the company announced the acquisition of IBM’s personal computer business, which includes the laptop and tablet lines. Now the company has headquarters in Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, and North Carolina. Lenovo also currently operates 46 labs and research centers in Yokohama, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Morrisville.
