What is MailChannels?
MailChannels is a Vancouver-based cybersecurity company. MailChannels focuses on email security and email delivery solutions designed for web hosting providers. The company is mostly known for its tools that are capable of protecting servers from sending spam, identifying bad actors, and delivering a better email service. Its solutions allow organizations to outsource email deliverability by combining email delivery services with spam filtering features. The platform relies on its cloud-based infrastructure which offers reliability, scalability, and security.
MailChannels was established in 2004 by former ActiveState engineers, which was acquired by Sophos later. The team also created one of the earliest commercial spam filters. MailChannels’ first release was an SMTP proxy, which provides tar-pitting and transparent S MTP proxy feature for inbound emails. A few years later, in 2010, MailChannels introduced an outbound email filtering solution. It was capable of filtering up to 30 million messages per hour, transparently. It scans the emails while it exits the network and identifies compromised accounts, thus reducing the risk of IP addresses getting blocked on receiving networks. The company also launched a cloud-based outbound email filtering service in 2013, and a cloud-based inbound email filtering service in 2018.
MailChannels allows users to search through logs going back to months of data from its web interface to allow them to pinpoint the issues quickly. Its advanced search features help users to find the mail easily and show them in a structured manner. The system is also capable of suggesting alert notifications, allowing users to create monitors to detect a potential compromise or malicious behavior.
