What is Mirantis?



Mirantis, located in Campbell, California, a cloud computing company that offers software and services. The company aims to help organizations ship code faster on public and private clouds. Mirantis also provides a public cloud experience on any infrastructure. Its Mirantis Container Cloud and Mirantis Kubernetes Engine, formerly known as Docker Enterprise, is a part of the Mirantis Cloud Native Platform suite of products. The company has more than 600 employees.

Mirantis was founded in 1999 by Alex Freedland and Boris Renski. The company also became one of the founding members of the OpenStack Foundation which is a non-profit corporate organization. The company also is an active member of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation since 2016.

Mirantis introduced its own OpenStack distribution in 2013, which works with various operating systems. In 2017, the company announced that it changed its focus to managed services based on various open-source platforms. A few years later in 2019, the company became the official administrator of the Certified OpenStack Administrator program. The company launched Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes, a containerized edition of the open-source Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform, which is a part of the company’s Cloud Native Platform.

In 2016, Mirantis acquired a Czech startup, TCP Cloud. In 2019, Mirantis announced that the company has acquired Docker Enterprise Technology Platform and all associated Docker Enterprise Engine, Docker Trusted Registry, Docker Unified Control Plane, and Docker CLI. In 2020, the company announced the acquisition of an open-source integrated development environment for Kubernetes, Lens.
