What is Palo Alto Networks?
The cybersecurity company, Palo Alto Networks is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. The company offers innovation to enable secure digital transformation. The company currently has more than 80,000 customers in more than 150 countries. It is known for its platform which includes firewalls and cloud-based offerings. Palo Alto Networks’ revenue in the fiscal year of 2020 was $3.4 billion.
The company was founded by Nir Zuk in 2005. He is a former engineer from Check Point and NetScreen Technologies when he established the company. Nir Zuk is also the principal developer of the first stateful inspection firewall and the first intrusion prevention system.
2 years after its establishment, the company released its first product, which was an enterprise firewall and named as the world’s first next-generation firewall. The next-generation firewall was able to operate on and inspect all of the layers of the network stack and it was intelligent enough to block threats instead of traditional firewalls which only relied on simple rules.
In 2012, the company announced an IPO and debuted on the NYSE, which was the 4th biggest tech IPO of the year. 2 years later, a non-profit organization Cyber Threat Alliance was founded by Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, McAfee, and Symantec. The organization aimed to improve cybersecurity between the industry’s organizations. The organization had 20 members in 2018, including Cisco, Check Point, Juniper Networks, and Sophos.
The company also improved its product portfolio with Traps endpoint protection, Wildfire malware prevention, Application Framework, and Logging Service that allows users to gather data for machine learning and data analytics. Palo Alto Networks also reorganized Cortex Data Lake, Hub, Cortex XDR, AutoFocus, Cortex XSOAR, Prisma Access, and Prisma Cloud under the Cortex brand in 2019. The company is also known for its threat intelligence team, Unit 42.
