What is Public Interest Registry?

Public Internet Registry, or PIR for short, is a Virginia-based non-profit organization to manage the .org domain. It is created by the Internet Society in 2002 and took operation of .org in 2003. The organization also launched the .ngo and the .ong top-level domains in 2015.
