What is Zayo?

Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (“Zayo”) is a provider of mission-critical fiber bandwidth in every major market in North America and many in Western Europe. Zayo has 133,000-mile network in North America and Europe including extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. Zayo’s communications infrastructure solutions cover dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, dedicated Internet access, and colocation services. The fiber bandwidth provider owns and operates a Tier 1 IP Backbone and 44 carrier-neutral data centers.

With the foundation of Zayo by Dan Caruso and a team of entrepreneurs, the company has started to expand with acquisitions include Memphis Networx, PPL Telcom, Indiana Fiber Works, VoicePipe and Onvoy Inc. In the next years, Zayo completed 13 acquisitions. In 2012, Zayo’s network reached 45 states and 7 countries in North America and Europe with the acquisition of AboveNet. The company reached Western Europe by acquiring Neo Telecoms and Geo Networks. The network provider continued its expansion with many acquisitions like Allstream, Electric Lightwave, Spread Networks. The new chapter began with the investments of Digital Colony and EQT. $14.3 billion transaction represents the second largest LBO since 2008. Zayo now owns and operates 20 data centers.
